Chapternal is run by Lucid Systems LLC. This says what we hold, why, and who else touches it. It describes the software as it is actually built, not as a category.
What we hold
Your account. Name, email address, and profile image, from the account you sign in with. If you sign in with Google, Google gives us those; we never see your Google password. We keep session records so you stay signed in.
Your work. The manuscript you upload or paste, the score built from it, your cast, the notes you write on lines, and the audio takes on those lines. This is the product. It is stored against your account id and is not shown to other people unless you publish a title.
Your mill, if you connect one. The name and heartbeat of a machine you register to render voices, and the render jobs it claims. We store the job text and the resulting audio. We do not receive anything else from that machine.
Quality verdicts. When a machine listens to a take, we store its verdict and a hash of the audio it judged, so a verdict stops applying once you re-record.
What we do not hold
We do not sell anything to advertisers. We do not build a profile of you. We do not run third-party trackers or advertising pixels on this site. We do not train models on your manuscripts or your audio, and we do not license them to anyone who does.
Who else touches it
- Vercel hosts the site and runs its server code, so it processes every request, including your IP address.
- Neon stores the database — your account, your work, and your audio.
- Google handles sign-in when you choose it, and serves the fonts this site uses, which means your browser contacts Google to load them.
- xAI receives the text of a specific request when you ask for an image for a chapter or a wording suggestion on a line — that request only, when you ask for it. Your book is not sent wholesale, and nothing is sent unless you press the button.
When we begin taking payment, our payment processor will handle card details directly. We will not see or store your card number. This page will name that processor before it is switched on.
Where it lives
Our servers and database run in the United States. If you are outside the United States, using Chapternal means your information is processed there.
How long
Your work stays until you delete it or close your account. Deleting your account deletes your account row and everything keyed to it — books, takes, published copies, jobs, verdicts — because they are stored with a cascade on your account id. Backups may hold copies for a short period after that.
What you can ask for
Write to us and we will tell you what we hold about you, correct it, export it, or delete it. Depending on where you live you may have a formal right to those things; we will honour the request either way, and we do not require you to cite a law to make it.
Children
Chapternal is not for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Changes
If we change this in a way that matters, we will say so on this page and change the date at the top. Continuing to use Chapternal after that means the new version applies.
